Western Illinois University was established April 24, 1899, and began operation September 23, 1902. Located in Macomb, IL, the University offers 53 undergraduate degree programs and 34 graduate degree programs for more than 13,000 students. Approximately 80 percent of WIU students are undergraduates and 20 percent are graduate students. The curriculum includes the humanities, social sciences, fine arts, business, education, and a number of pre-professional and technical fields of study. Although students primarily come from Illinois, more than 1,300 are from out of state, including 306 from foreign countries. Between July 2002 and June 2003, 2,414 students completed undergraduate degree requirements.

The University is holding Arts & Sciences, Business & Technology, Education & Human Services, Fine Arts & Communication, Illinois Centennial Honors Colleges.

College of Business and Technology
The College of Business and Technology at Western Illinois University provides a focus for educational excellence that promotes the intellectual and personal growth of participants and enhances their contributions to individuals, organizations, and society. The activities and operations of the College are not regionally restricted, as the western part of Illinois is an integral part of a unified social and economic infrastructure that extends across the United States to the world. The business programs in the College are fully accredited by the AACSB International at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.
