Company

In-Sink-Erator® is the world’s largest manufacturer of food waste disposers and hot water dispensers for home and commercial use. Its headquarters are in Racine, Wisconsin, with sales and service offices throughout the world. With its legendary performance and reliability, In-Sink-Erator is the choice of 9 out of 10 plumbing professionals.

Challenge

In-Sink-Erator needed to place forecasting ownership into the hands of the right people and establish accountability of the forecasts. The forecasting process was centrally controlled by one person, with little or no input from the people actually involved with sales forecasting.

This lack of visibility created unreliable sales forecasts that lacked the integration of specific program information or economic factors. In-Sink-Erator wanted a tool that would improve accuracy at a high level, and push the information down to a lower level, as well as include tools for analysis. The company selected John Galt Solutions’ Atlas Planning Suite.

Solution

Atlas Planning Suite allows for multiple users, thus pushing ownership into multiple hands. This greater visibility into In-Sink-Erator's business allows for definite programs, such as promotions, to be taken into account and creates a more accurate look at demand.

In-Sink-Erator also takes advantage of the Demand Management Engine's Batch Scheduler to save time. The Batch Scheduler allows users to schedule their batches to run daily, weekly or at a specific time and date, saving users time by allowing for forecasts to be produced without user interaction. According to the director of e-business at In-Sink-Erator: “We really like the easy-to-use, flexible user interface.”

Benefit

The efficiency gained from Atlas' ability to automate the forecasting process has allowed more time for analyzing and understanding forecasts, versus focusing on the mechanics behind the forecast. The open database has also enabled In-Sink-Erator to make dramatic improvements in analyzing results by allowing the use of existing business intelligence tools.
